In this design challenge, I found a secondary stakeholder to target. Parents/guardians of international students. Parents and guardians often anticipate hardships quicker and more visibly than their charges. By understanding that these stakeholders have an indirect interest and must have their worries quelled, I'm looking to design a a handout that expresses security and optimism. This would entail speaking of work-study programs, authentication and recognition of an OU diploma, as well as scholarships and other safety incentives on the handout, as these are more adult worries that passionate students seem to forget.
To understand what constitutes a secondary stakeholder and how they differ from a primary, read this article.
How did I identify my stakeholders?
I looked for groups and audiences that had an influence or relationship with my primary stakeholder. From there, I brain-stormed the insecurities that my primary stakeholder would have (ex. economic support to study abroad, family approval) and found a stakeholder who would highlight this weakness.
In this article, I have found different tactics and models one could use to define and target their stakeholders.
Furthermore, once you have identified this secondary stakeholder by looking at the supports systems and insecurities of your primary, I think its best to create a handout that relaxes the worries of the secondary and addresses any possible negative aspects.
